V Day

While I would love to say I’m fine spending Valentine’s Day alone I’m not. However, it beats spending it with someone who won’t be in my life next Valentine’s Day.

A few years ago there was this guy I was crushing on at the gym. The creepy part is he kinda looked like my ex.  Never have I ever dated someone who looked so much like someone I once dated.

Anyway, we would exchange glances every now and then and we even chatted once but he never asked for my number which I thought was odd since he seemed interested.

On Valentine’s Day in 2014 I was at the gym and about to head home to study when I saw him again. He asked me out. On Valentine’s Day!

Here I am… sweaty, in my gym clothes and you’re asking me out? Wow, I still got it LOL

So we grab something to eat at nearby place and he starts telling me about a situation in his family. I ask if he has kids,he says no he has a kid. Um ok. I don’t date guys with a kid or kids.  Somewhere in the conversation he asks about my hair which actually led me to believe he didn’t like it or wasn’t sure about it. I had my hair pulled back in a bun. Nothing to like or dislike but I took note of his comments.  Now that I wear my hair curly most of the time, whoever I date has to like it. It’s a non-negotiable.

I left that meeting (it clearly wasn’t a date) thinking wow – I asked for a Valentine. I kinda got one.

Later he played the worst phone games. He asked me out on a legit date but when the day came, he didn’t say anything about it.  I finally stopped responding and then I blocked his number. Didn’t need him creeping into my text messages with the famous “good morning beautiful or hey stranger” line . He didn’t want anything and neither did I.

I say all this to say, you can have a Valentine if you want one but wouldn’t you rather wait on the right one?

Last year I spent my Valentine’s Day with an 8 month old. While we likely won’t kick it this year, I’ll be in good company for sure – my own.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
